ST JAMES CHAPEL: HILTON HEAD ISLAND

ST JAMES CHAPEL: AN EXTENSION OF ST JAMES ORTHODOX CHURCH ON HILTON HEAD ISLAND

In 2023, St James Orthodox Church in Beaufort, South Carolina, added a chapel to its ministry “footprint” on Hilton Head Island. The hope for this chapel is to serve as a place of prayer during the week for those who find it difficult to make the trip from Hilton Head and Bluffton to our church in Beaufort. With the massive growth going on in our area, the traffic on the roads has made this formerly short journey into something more time-consuming.

In addition, while this chapel is currently an extension of St James Orthodox Church (being something of a “chapel of ease” at this time) there is hope that it could grow and perhaps become a mission of its own. One of the greatest qualities of the Orthodox Christian tradition is the fact that it is “evangelical”, offering the fullness of the Gospel to all men of good will, seeking to find Christ and bear their cross.

At this time, the St James Chapel meets on TUESDAYS at 6 PM.

We currently meet at Anglican Church of the Redeemer (1 Mathews Dr, Suite 101, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926 , at the corner of Beach City Rd & Mathews Dr). We are very grateful to the parishioners of Anglican Church of the Redeemer for their generous use of their worship space!

On the first Tuesday of each month, Fr James Bozeman serves Daily Vespers along with a choir that sings the service. On the other Tuesdays of the month, the local community—lead by lay-reader John Boyes— chants the services together, offering mid-week prayers for us all.

Refer to the calendar on our home page for more details and the current service schedule at both our church in Beaufort and our chapel on Hilton Head.

Join us each Tuesday as we spread the Gospel in the Lowcountry!
